About Svetlana

- My name is Svetlana Kalinichenko, and I’m a watercolor and ink artist who is drawn to both the natural world and the quiet beauty of historic places. My work focuses on botanical subjects and architectural landmarks—things rooted in time, with stories to tell.
- Many of my ideas come to me while running along Tod’s Point or through Greenwich’s older neighborhoods. I notice the curve of a wildflower, the shape of a porch, the light over the Sound—and bring those impressions back to my sketchbook.
- I work in a range of traditional techniques, from highly detailed watercolor and ink illustration to loose sketching done on location. I’m especially inspired by my love of art and history—particularly the Old Masters—and I sometimes incorporate gilded backgrounds as a quiet nod to those influences.
- Whether I’m painting a flower, a home, or a shoreline, I try to create a sense of stillness and connection—something that invites the viewer to pause and really look.
